I have a confession to make.
Of the limited amount of Christian fiction I have read, I didn’t like it that much.
There, I feel better with that off my chest. But therein lies the problem. My novel, Hope and Faith, is supposed to have a subtle Christian undertone. Can it be done, or do all Christian fiction books require characters that are nearly perfect (the real Christians I know are flawed, like me). Am I better to scrap the project and move on to something else? Have you read Christian fiction that is good? Really good? Let me know in the comments please.

Some people love religious novels–besides he characters don’t have to be perfect—they can be really raunchy & just keep trudging the road to a better life. So if you don’t like Christian fiction very much—why are you trying to write a novel on it?
I’m hoping someone can give me the names of some good Christian fiction to read. There must be some. I haven’t tried but a few, and they have really had too perfect characters living too perfect lives. Very unrealistic and not that much fun to read.
As far as my story, it is not ABOUT Christian fiction. It is a story with (hopefully) real flawed characters whose lives are impacted by their faith. But it is subtle references, I think. They say “write what you know” and being Christian is very much part of who I am. IDK – I’m so far away from having anything readable yet anyway, but I’m going to keep plugging at it. Thank you for commenting here on the blog.
I will ask my sister for some good titles. She reads Christian fiction exclusively. Is there a particular theme you are looking for? I remember her saying that the characters should be flawed and realistic. I believe the idea is that they overcome their flaws through their faith.
Thanks Linda – I could use some references to familiarize myself with that genre. No particular theme – just want to read what’s good. Thanks so much! -Sheryl
